Will I get regular pay during my Section Commander Course (SCC) in SCDF?

Yes. You will be paid the full salary for the 6-month Section Commander Course (SCC).

When is my next incremental date, after signing of the appointment letter with SCDF?

You will be eligible for next increment in 6 months of service if you have completed 2 years of full-time NS. For females, your next increment will be in 12 months' time.

What is the Scheme of Service for SCDF Fire and Rescue Specialist (FRS)?

As FRS, you will be appointed under the permanent scheme of service.

Can I join the SCDF before enlistment to NSF?

Yes, you are eligible to apply for the appointment as long as you have satisfied our entry requirements. If you are liable for full-time NS, your NSF will be disrupted and you will be placed under the Minimum Term of Engagement (MTE) of 5 years. Your NSF obligation will be considered as fulfilled after the completion of 5 years regular service. Minimum Term of Engagement (MTE) refers to the period of reckonable regular service, which a full-time national service liable person must serve in order to be deemed to have completed his full-time national service liability.

Do I have any more NS (reservist) obligation after joining SCDF?

You will still have NS (reservist) obligation after joining SCDF. However in view of your uniformed occupation in the Force, you will be disrupted from all NS activities. This disruption will be revoked should you leave the Force subsequently.

Is there allowance for SCDF FRS?

Yes, upon completing the training, a qualified FRS will get an extra monthly allowance of $200.

What are the working hours for SCDF FRS?

As FRS, you will be performing 24 hours shift duty with 48 hours OFF. For instance, you will be working 24 hours and followed by 2 days OFF.

What is the retirement age for SCDF FRS?

50 years old.
Prospects and Upgrading

I want to become a SCDF HAZMAT/DART/ Fire Investigation/ Fire Safety Specialist. But how do I go about doing it?

You must start off as a FRS before you could specialize in a certain vocation. After which, you will be selected for training if you qualify for the specialized vocation.

How long do I have to wait before I can apply to be in the Specialist career track in SCDF?

Preferably after at least one year. This is to ensure that you have accumulated adequate rescue and operation skills at the front line.

Are the prospects for promotion good in SCDF?

Due to a high number of vacant appointments in the upper hierarchy of the Emergency Response Specialist Scheme of Service, the promotion prospects are good. Promotion will depend on your performance.

Can I be promoted to Senior Officer in SCDF?

Yes, outstanding FRS who has obtained a university degree could be promoted to Senior Officer.

Is obtaining at least a pass standard in IPPT/NAPFA very essential in SCDF?

Yes. You are required to pass your IPPT every year, as it is a criterion for promotion.

What do you mean by a full 'A' level certificate?

You must obtain at least 2 'A' / H2 & 2 'AO' / H1 passes including a pass in General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry(KI) in one sitting.
Training

How many Section Commander Course (SCC) intakes are there per year in SCDF?

There are 4 intakes annually.

Where will the Section Commander Course training be conducted?

It will be held at the Civil Defence Academy (CDA). Food and accommodation are provided. The 6-month SCC is a residential course. However, trainees are allowed to book out for the weekend.
Training bond

Is the 6-month Section Commander Course part of the 2-year training bond in SCDF?

No. The bond will only commence after the completion of the SCC.

How much do I need to pay if I resign/fail during the Section Commander Course in SCDF?

If you resign/fail during the SCC, you are required to pay back the training liability. It comprises the course fees, salary and bonuses of the officer during the said period, compounded at 10% interest (at a pro-rated sum). If you resign during the 2-year period, you are required to pay back the amount you are bonded for (at a pro-rated sum), depending on your individual salary.
