Yes. You will be paid the full salary for the 18-month of Section Commander (Paramedic) Course.
When is my next incremental date, after signing of the appointment letter with SCDF?
You will be eligible for next increment in 6 months of service if you have completed 2 years of full-time NS. For females, your next increment will be in 12 months’ time.
What is the Scheme of Service for SCDF Paramedic (PRM)?
As PRM, you will be appointed under the permanent scheme of service.
Is there allowance for Paramedic?
Yes, upon completing the training, a qualified Paramedic will get an extra monthly allowance of $400.
What are the working hours for Paramedic?
As PRM, you will be performing shift duty. The shift for PRM is as follows:
Day Shift : 8am - 9pm (2 Day shifts 2 OFF)
Night Shift : 9pm - 8am (2 Night shifts 2 OFF)
Do I have any more NS (reservist) obligation after joining SCDF?
You will still have NS (reservist) obligation after joining SCDF. However in view of your uniformed occupation in the Force, you will be disrupted from all NS activities. This disruption will be revoked should you leave the Force subsequently.
Can I join the SCDF before enlistment to NSF?
Yes, you are eligible to apply for the appointment as long as you have satisfied our entry requirements. If you are liable for full-time NS, your NSF will be disrupted and you will be placed under the Minimum Term of Engagement (MTE) of 5 years. Your NSF obligation will be considered as fulfilled after the completion of 5 years regular service.
Minimum Term of Engagement (MTE) refers to the period of reckonable regular service, which a full-time national service liable person must serve in order to be deemed to have completed his full-time national service liability.
What is the retirement age for SCDF Paramedic?
50 years old.
Prospects and Upgrading
Are the prospects for promotion good in SCDF?
Promotion will depend on your performance. There are opportunities to attend the Advanced Training (local/ overseas) and take up higher appointments.
Can I be promoted to Senior Officer Appointment in SCDF?
Yes, outstanding paramedics who have obtained a university degree could be promoted to Senior Officer.

What do you mean by a full 'A' level certificate?
You must obtain at least 2 'A' / H2 & 2 'AO' / H1 passes including a pass in General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry(KI) in one sitting.
Is obtaining at least a pass standard in IPPT/NAPFA very essential in SCDF?
Yes. You are required to pass your IPPT every year, as it is a criterion for promotion.
Training
How many Section Commander (Paramedic) Course intakes are there per year?
There are 4 intakes annually.
Where would the Paramedic training be conducted?
At the School of Military Medicine (SMM), Civil Defence Academy (CDA) and Nanyang Polytechnic. You'll get hands-on experience when you are attached to places such as hospitals and fire stations.
Training bond
Is the 18-month of Section Commander (Paramedic) Course part of the 2-year training bond?
No. The bond will only commence after the completion of the Section Commander (Paramedic) Course.
How much do I need to pay if I resign/fail during the Section Commander (Paramedic) Course?
If you resign/fail during the Section Commander (Paramedic) Course, you are required to pay back the training liability. It comprises the course fees, salary and bonuses of the officer during the said period, compounded at 10% interest (at a pro-rated sum).
