What are the retirement benefits for SCDF Senior Officers?
As a newly appointed SCDF officer, you will be placed under the Invest (CPF) Scheme i.e. Retirement Plan. Under this Plan, MHA will contribute 6% of your monthly gross salary (including bonuses) to your Retirement account, starting from your 7th year of service with SCDF. If you have participated in the Plan for at least 10 years, you will be eligible for a portion of your Retirement account based on your age when you leave service. In the event of a total and permanent disability or death, the total balance will be paid to you or your beneficiary as a lump sum.

What will my career path be in SCDF?
Upon completion of the course, you will be posted to Fire Stations as Rota Commanders where you will be exposed to real-life responses to fire incidences and station administration. Subsequent postings will expose you to command, staff and specialist functions, and help uncover your strengths and interests to guide your career path. From a Rota Commander, you could work your way up to become an Officer Commanding (OC) of a fire station, Director of a staff department in HQ SCDF, or a Division Commander. Promotion prospects will largely depend on your potential and performance, which is constantly being appraised by your supervisors and mentors.

How do I know if my degree from overseas is acceptable by SCDF for application?
Generally, SCDF will consider any candidate with a degree from a University accredited by the home government of the country where the university is situated.
Is obtaining at least a pass standard in IPPT/NAPFA very essential in SCDF?
Yes. You are required to pass your IPPT every year, as it is a criterion for promotion.
Training
Where will the Basic Officer Course training be conducted?
It will be held at the Civil Defence Academy (CDA). Food and accommodation are provided. The 8-month BOC is a residential course. However, trainees are allowed to book out for the weekend.
How many Basic Officer Course intakes are there each year in SCDF?
There are 2 intakes annually - June and December.
Training bond
Is the 8-month Basic Officer Course part of the 2-year training bond in SCDF?
No. The bond will only commence after the completion of the BOC.
How much do I need to pay if I resign/fail during the Basic Officer Course in SCDF?
If you resign/fail during the BOC, you are required to pay back the training liability. It comprises the course fees, salary and bonuses of the officer during the said period, compounded at 10% interest (at a pro-rated sum).
If you resign during the 2-year period, you are required to pay back the amount you are bonded for (at a pro-rated sum), depending on your individual salary.
