Fast Response Paramedics ready to turn out for a call

Fire bikers

Unlike our typical Fire Engines or Red Rhino, where you can have your buddies sitting next to you when you turn out for a fire, rescue or non-rescue incident, the Fire Bike can only accommodate 1 rider (we call the rider – the Fire Biker).

The Fire Biker not only rides his bike, he is also capable of putting out small fires (e.g. car, rubbish, grass fires) using the water impulse gun, which the vehicle carries at its rear. Other than the water impulse gun set, the fire bike also carries equipments such as hydraulic forcible entry tools, fire extinguisher, vehicle marshalling vest, searchlights and a first aid pouch.

Fire Bikes in Fire Stations usually respond to a fire incident in pairs (as seen in the photo on the left). However, they also respond together with the Red Rhino and/ or the Fire engines, when the situation requires more resources.

Fast Response Paramedics ready to turn out for a call

A Fire Biker equivalent on our EAS (Emergency Ambulance Services) side is the Fast Response Paramedic (FRP in short). Also available in most Fire stations, the FRP can respond to emergency calls that require fast medical attention but not necessarily evacuation.

The FRP carries with him/her medical equipments such as a stethoscope, cervical collars, delivery set, automated external defibrillator (AED), bandages, dressings, some medical drugs, air viva set and splints. The FRP is usually an experienced paramedic, with at least 2 years experience turning out in ambulances, and possesses an emergency vehicle 2A licence. When evacuation of a patient is required, the FRP will turn out together with an ambulance.
